Professional Cleanings

Teeth cleaning can do wonders for your dental health and your overall confidence. When your teeth are clean, your whole mouth feels clean. We recommend that you visit our office every six months to receive a professional teeth cleaning from our team. During your cleaning, a hygienist will remove plaque and tartar from the surface of teeth, including the spaces between your teeth. This process helps improve the health of your teeth and gums, and reduce your risk of gum disease. Once you have clean teeth, your hygienist will polish them to a beautiful shine.

Comprehensive Exams

Even if you have the most thorough at-home dental hygiene routine, you should still get regular dental exams at least twice a year. With the help of regular dental check-ups, our team is able to monitor your oral health and catch any potential issues early, which often means that treatment can be more conservative.

We complete the following during your exam:

  • Gum health assessment
  • Diagnosis of tooth decay
  • X-rays for further examination and diagnosis
  • Screening for oral cancer
  • Evaluation of stability of existing restorations
  • Recommendation of any necessary treatment

Pediatric Dentistry

Good dental health starts at an early age, which is why we encourage parents to begin bringing their children in to see us starting when they are 12 months old or when the first tooth erupts. While children do eventually lose their primary teeth, those teeth are incredibly important. They create and preserve space and a path for the permanent teeth that will come in later in childhood.

During a pediatric dental visit, our team will examine your child’s teeth and speak with you about proper pediatric dental care. This includes brushing and teaching proper brushing techniques to your child, flossing, and maintaining a good diet. If your child drinks from a bottle, they should only drink water at bedtime because the sugars from milk or juice can lead to cavities.

If you ever have questions about your child’s dental care or habits, reach out to our team. We are here to help you and your child enjoy a lifetime of happy, healthy smiles.

Proper Home Care

A beautiful smile starts at home. A good dental hygiene routine is a cornerstone of good overall dental health. The team at Chatham Family & Implant Dentistry is always happy to answer questions and make suggestions based on your specific concerns.

Brushing

Regular exams and cleanings are important, but the number one thing you can do to keep your teeth healthy is brush your teeth at least twice a day. Whether you use a manual brush or electric brush doesn’t matter as much as the technique and frequency. Brush all visible sides of your teeth and make sure to get along the gumline, too. Brushing between dental visits will help keep plaque and tartar at bay.

Flossing

Daily flossing is the best way to clean between your teeth, where a toothbrush cannot reach. Proper flossing technique includes using a long strand of floss (about 18 inches), wrapping it around your fingers and pulling taut, and then sliding the floss gently between teeth and under the gumline. Slide the floss up and down between teeth and around the base of the teeth in a c-shape to get a thorough cleaning.

Mouth Rinse

While they can’t replace regular brushing and flossing, mouth rinses can help battle bad breath, remove food particles after meals, and generally freshen up the feel of your mouth. Relying too heavily on mouth rinses can hide early signs of gum disease, though, so be sure to brush, floss, and visit our office regularly.

Our friendly and knowledgeable team at Chatham Family & Implant Dentistry is here to help you with all your family dentistry needs. From routine exams and cleanings for the whole family to help with at-home care, we want to make sure that you have everything you need to get and maintain a healthy smile.
